Heartland AEA employs a special education nurse consultant who provides consultative services to district/school building staff and AEA staff involved in designing programming for children and adolescents with special health needs.
The nurse consultant’s responsibilities include:
- Coaching a school nurse through writing an individualized health plan (IHP) or emergency plan.
- Team consultation when writing a Section 504 Plan or individualized education plan (IEP) for a student with a health condition.
- Providing professional development opportunities for school practitioners and school nurses.
- Engaging in problem-solving for students with complex or rare health service needs.
