Adapted Physical Education

The State of Iowa mandates that all K-12th grade students have access to physical education (PE). The unique and specific needs of individuals with disabilities may require accommodations and strategies to provide effective instruction in functional and developmentally appropriate skills within the least restrictive environment.

Heartland AEA staff can consult with educators when:

  • Problem-solving is needed to generate programming ideas
  • Modified equipment or instructional materials are needed
  • You need consultative assistance to meet the physical education needs of students
  • There are questions about the appropriate placement of students in physical education
