Job Description
Provides for an appropriate educational program for each child living in a licensed shelter or detention facility
Coordinates with schools, AEAs and Shelter Care staff as necessary to develop an appropriate education program for each student
Provides a safe, secure and supportive learning environment conducive to learning for all students
Serves as an advocate for all children and youth
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an education program and ability to be licensed as a teacher in the state of Iowa
Successful teaching experience in special and general education
Special education endorsement: Instructional Strategist I or II
Be appropriately licensed/certified by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners
Salary
Full-time with a bachelor’s degree working 192 days a year: starting salary of $50,782
Top of pay range: $97,369 at the doctorate level
Shelter Care Teacher Associate
Job Description
Provides support services to teachers and students in AEA shelter/detention classrooms, under the direction of a licensed teacher
Works with students individually and in small groups to support their educational progress
Assists with the preparation and maintenance of instructional materials and activities
Serves as an advocate for all children and youth
Education & Experience
Two years of post-secondary education or paraeducator certification required
Post-secondary degree in education and/or social services preferred
Successful experience working with at-risk students preferred
Salary
Full-time working 199 days a year: $20-25 an hour
