School Social Worker

Job Description

  • Uses functional assessment techniques designed to focus on children’s relationships with home, school and community and on the development of interventions to improve educational performance
  • Communicates with parents, school personnel and community resource staff to involve them in a problem-solving approach with children birth to age 21 to develop coordinated action plans
  • Works within school systems to assist in the development and implementation of positive school-wide systems of support
  • Assists schools in implementing social, emotional and behavioral learning practices that benefit all students
  • May work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to identify and coordinate early intervention services for infants and toddlers
  • Serves as an advocate for all children and youth

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in social work from an accredited social work program
  • Appropriate license/certification from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners
  • Training in education and understanding of public school services and special education are preferred
  • Two years of successful experience in public school social work or child-related social work is preferred

Salary

  • Full-time working 192 days a year: starting salary of $54,747
  • Full-time with doctorate-level training working 192 days a year: as much as $95,555
