Board of Directors
Heartland AEA is governed by a nine-member board (Iowa Code 273.8).
- Five members represent director districts in our 11-county area that are roughly equal in population. They are elected by local school district boards of education and serve staggered four-year terms.
- Four members are superintendents (or a designee) who serve at-large. They are appointed by the majority vote of the superintendents of public school districts located within the boundaries of the AEA. They serve staggered four-year terms.
The Board is responsible for approving agency budgets and program plans before they are submitted for final approval to the Iowa Department of Education, hiring a chief administrator and establishing and overseeing education policies for the Agency.
Board meetings are held at the Heartland AEA Regional Education Center at 6500 Corporate Drive in Johnston on the second Tuesday of each month, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Agendas are posted at least 24 hours in advance, and the public is always welcome to attend.
