Nurse Consultation

Heartland AEA employs two special education nurse consultants who provide consultative services to district/school building staff and AEA staff involved in designing programming for children and adolescents with special health needs. Duties include:

  • Coaching a school nurse through writing an individualized health plan (IHP) or emergency plan
  • Team consulatation when writing a Section 504 Plan or individualized education plan (IEP) for a student with a health condition
  • Providing professional development opportunities for school practitioners and school nurses
  • Engaging in problem-solving for students with complex or rare health service needs
