A brain injury can happen at any time to anyone. Heartland AEA staff members consult with schools and families of a brain injury victim on the educational needs of the student including the following:
- Student's return to the educational setting
- Educational planning such as modifications, accommodations and instructional strategies
- Monitoring of progress and identification of future needs
To access these services, contact your regional director who will then make a referral to one of Heartland AEA's special education nurses.
You may also download the Brain Injury Quick Guide for more information on supporting students who have brain injuries. The guide was developed by the Governor’s Advisory Council on Brain Injuries, the Iowa Department of Public Health, Grant Wood AEA and the Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa.
