Homebound services are considered unique placement options, in which instruction and/or support services will be provided in the home or hospital, for students receiving special education services. Students must be identified as having a condition that precludes their participation in school or related activities. The decision to offer a special education student homebound services is made by an individualized education plan (IEP) team within the parameters of an IEP meeting. Homebound services are used in rare cases in which a special education student is going to miss more than a few days of school due to a medical reason or significant behavioral concern. This placement is considered temporary and will be reviewed at regular intervals by the IEP team.
