New Instructor Information

Instructor Eligibility

The following information is only required by instructors who will be paid by Heartland AEA (catalog courses). Those eligible to be professional development instructors must have earned a master's degree or some specific training qualifying them to lead professional development. All instructors must successfully complete the course, "Planning and Providing Adult Learning (Presenting)" (previously titled "Facilitating Adult Learning") at Heartland AEA, a similar course at another institution or have successfully completed a "Train the Trainer" program in their subject area. The "Planning and Providing Adult Learning (Presenting)" course focuses on 1) adult learning theory, 2) instructional design for adults, 3) presentation skills and strategies and 4) infusing technology in teaching.

The "Planning and Providing Adult Learning (Presenting)" course is offered a few times throughout the year and is free for Heartland AEA instructors (unless credit is desired). This must be completed within one year of teaching a course for Heartland AEA. You can register through the Professional Development Catalog.

Instructor Forms

The following forms are only required to be completed by instructors who will be paid by Heartland AEA (catalog courses). Please download these forms, complete them and make an appointment with a Professional Development staff member to begin the employment process with Heartland AEA.

Professional Development Instructor Application
The application must also include a photocopy of your teaching license or photocopies of your graduate and undergraduate transcripts.

I-9 Form
All instructors must complete an I-9, which is a verification of employment eligibility.

Federal W-4 Form        

State W-4 Form
All instructors must file a federal and state W-4 form with Heartland AEA so that the appropriate income taxes are taken out of payroll checks.

Direct Deposit Waiver Form

403(b) and 457 Retirement Plans -- The 403(b) and 457 are retirement savings plans available through the State of Iowa Retirement Investors' Club. Participation in the plans is optional and not required to become a Professional Development instructor. Contact the Heartland AEA Payroll Department for information.
