Science Standards Professional Development
Iowa Science Standards Module 3 Workshops
These two-day sessions are a continuation of the work done the last two years with the Iowa Core Science Standards Overview (Module 1) and the Classroom Transitions, Shifts and Practices (Module 2). Participation in Modules 1 & 2 or equivalent online participation in Modules 1 & 2 is a prerequisite for Module 3. The focus of Module 3 will be on “Gathering & Using Evidence of Student Learning.” All workshops are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Module 3 Learning Targets
- I can describe ways to gather and use multiple pieces of evidence of 3D student learning over time.
- I can analyze various classroom assessments to identify evidence of 3D alignment.
- I can use a systematic process to modify and develop various tasks that focus on eliciting evidence of 3D learning.
- I can analyze student work for evidence of 3D learning and to make instructional decisions.
Educators have the option of taking the Iowa Science Standards Module 1 training through AEA PD Online. This can be used as a review or as new learning for those who were unable to take Module 1. If you choose to take the online version of Module 1, we encourage you to do this session as a group, so you have collaborative conversations. To access Module 1 Online, visit the AEA PD Online website. Click on the "Catalog" button and search for "science standards." Participants will need to login (or create a login) in order to take this online module.
Educators may also take the Iowa Science Standards Module 2 through Canvas. Like Module 1, this can be used as a review or as new learning. To access Module 2 Online, visit the course via Canvas. You will either need to establish a free account in Canvas, or if you have an existing account, just login. (To gain access to Module 2 on Canvas, contact the Heartland AEA science consultant assigned to your school.)
Note: Two days of coursework is recommended for completion of Module 3. This year, when you sign up for Day 1, you will automatically be signed up for Day 2. If you need to change locations, contact the instructor so he/she can ensure adequate seating and handouts for all participants.
Registration for each the Module 3 sessions is linked below.
