The Tennessee English Language Placement Assessment (TELPA) is an English as a second language (ESL) screening instrument used to determine whether or not a student who speaks or hears a language other than English at home should receive ESL (Title III) services. The TELPA is locally administered and scored so schools/districts have immediate results to help place students accordingly.

The TELPA training for educators who are responsible for screening potential English learners can be accessed via the AEA Learning Online Learning System. Once you are there, log into the system, select "catalog," and keyword search for "TELPA."
