The Iowa Reading Research Center (IRRC) was established during the 2012 legislative session and works under the Iowa Department of Education to carry out the state’s commitment to improving literacy among all students.
“We know that kids who don’t have foundational reading skills are struggling in schools,” Michelle Hosp, IRRC director, said. "Not being able to read limits their choices in life – it limits their career paths. For me, I see it as the most critical thing that we can do for kids in Iowa – helping them become proficient in reading.”
You can find an online collection of literacy resources for classroom learning and teaching, at-home support and educator research on the IRRC website. Stay up-to-date by subscribing to the IRRC blog.
