When it’s time to transition a student with special needs to a new school, it can be hard for students and their parents. Planning for this transition gives parents, educators and students a roadmap by which the student can prepare for the new school building. This flyer offers insight from a parent and a teacher on how each can support the student in a transition. Share this resource with educators and families!
The flyer was developed by Heartland AEA’s Parent & Educator Connection (PEC), a team of parents of children or young adults with special needs who encourage and promote positive partnerships between parents and educators so that children with special needs are successful. Special thanks to Kate Boonstra, Heartland AEA Parent & Educator Connection Coordinator, and Shannon Johnson, Secondary Special Education Instructional Coach, Southeast Polk Community Schools.
