School Psychology Careers

Job Description 

  • Provides services necessary for the identification, diagnostic evaluation and educational programming for children and youth with disabilities 
  • Supports school improvement and implementation of the Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework 
  • Works within school systems to assist in the development and implementation of positive school-wide systems of support 
  • Uses functional assessment techniques designed to focus on children’s relationships with home, school and community and on the development of interventions to improve educational performance
  • Assists schools in implementing social, emotional, behavioral and mental health learning practices that benefit all students 
  • Collaborates with teachers and administrators to plan educational services and tiered supports for students 
  • Provides professional learning to teachers and schools 
  • Serves as an advocate for all children and youth 

Education & Experience 

  • Specialist-level (60 graduate hours) or doctorate degree from an accredited school psychology program 
  • Appropriate license/certification from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners 

Salary 

  • Full-time with specialist-level training working 192 days a year: starting salary of $49,228 or $34.19 an hour 
  • Full-time with doctorate-level training working 192 days a year: as much as $85,917 or $59.66 an hour
  • School psychology intern working a 192-day contracted internship: starting salary of $49,228
